Jekyll & Hyde
This was a fun build. Let’s face it, they all are. But specifically, because this was nearly two years in the making. The guitar was cut and shaped as the SECOND production RYE90NiNE ever crafted. But the finish work needed time for inspiration to strike.
To back up, EGW has an option to have your custom guitar hand painted by Travis Brown of Fleshworks Tattoo in Olympia, WA. It’s a fun arrangement and it’s not for everyone. But it changes the workflow quite a bit as you can imagine. This build in particular takes the record for time to completion.
The customer knew and was fully supportive. But as the builder, it’s so odd to come back to a guitar crafted MANY improvements and iterations ago. It’s lutherie time-travel. And it’s affirming to go back and recognize a decision point. Why we do this now, and not that. At the end of the day there will always be a first-class rock monster waiting for the customer.
